The avant-garde of the first half of the twentieth century rediscovered wood as a material for artistic creativity․ The first to turn to him after three centuries of oblivion were Anna Golubkina‚ Sergei Konenkov and Alexander Matveev․ They returned to the nature of the material‚ to its plastic and textural resources‚ while remaining within the framework of the traditional aesthetic paradigm (the 17th and 18th centuries used wood mainly for decorative decoration‚ and the 19th century completely rejected it)․
